Recess: Kayaking Catfish Creek in Mines of Spain
Join us on Saturday, July 16 for a morning paddle at Catfish Creek in Mines of Spain guided by Dubuque County Conservation.
We are thrilled to bring back a fan favorite Recess event this July! We will be kayaking Catfish Creek with our guides from Dubuque County Conservation. We are offering two time slots for this event to enable more paddlers to recreate together. The first session starts at 9:00 AM and runs to 10:30 AM. The second session starts at 10:30 AM and runs to 12:00 PM.
Our guide will take us on an hour and a half or so paddle on the easy current of the Mississippi Backwaters. All are welcome regardless of experience! This is FREE to attend, BUT Registration is Required. There are 10 kayaks available for free rental through the county and we will only be able to accommodate 10 additional women bringing their own kayaks for a total of 20 paddlers for each time slot. This is the ratio we will keep for safety purposes and in comparison to the size of the useable waterway.
What to bring? Please bring with you a water bottle, shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting wet, sunscreen and a good attitude. Life vests will be provided by the county if you are borrowing one of their kayaks. If you are registering to bring your own kayak, please bring your own PFD.
Can I participate if I have no experience? Absolutely! Kayaking as a newbie can be intimidating but you will not be the only one. We will have a few experienced paddlers plus 2 to 3 county conservation employees to guide you. Just come with a teachable spirit!
If you want to join us in the She Unites mission, please consider making a donation when registering for this event. Every dollar helps us grow our organization and make an impact in the lives of women in the Dubuque region.
What is She Unites Recess? Our Recess programming is our intentional community-building activity-based program. We are on a mission to connect amazing women through unique opportunities that get us out of our comfort zones.
